2 Bedroom Swan Cottage, Canal View, Parking, Kidlington, Oxford

Positive: Great little cottage in rural location close to the canal. Walking distance along the tow path to 2 pubs. Short drive to Oxford and the Cotswolds. We also went to The Farmers Dog pub, which is 20 mins away. Negative: We had a communication problem on check-in, resulting in the cottage not being fully ready for us, but it was swiftly rectified with a call to the owners.

Great weekend break option in the countryside Positive: Old with great character. It had a brilliant canal setting with good cafe and pub in walking distance. Easy drive to Blenheim Palace and Oxford Negative: Being old the bedroom windows did not latch properly ok in summer but may be cold in winter. Allocated parking slots were taken by other cottage but there were enough other options available

Netflix is superfluous as the nature and canal were more than enough. Positive: Fabulous cottage recently renovated so the bathrooms and kitchen are almost brand new. The location was quirky nestled between the canal (requiring access via the canal bridge), the river and the railway line. None the less, it was really quiet and very authentic. There was loads to do within walking walking distance including kayaking, walking and local tea rooms and pubs. Great for dogs and children and the garden a good size. Oh we had a minor problem during our stay and the host was amazingly responsive and fixed it even on a bank holiday weekend! Negative: Lack of a tea pot, fruit bowls and could have done with more glasses and mugs. Otherwise well supplied with equipment.

Lovely character property in super location by canal. Positive: Gorgeous cottage in lovely location near the canal, Boat House Pub (a decent meal there and nice garden) and cafe next door. Lovely walks along the canal with our dogs and easy drive to Blenheim Palace. We used the double bedroom (not the triple) and the bed was comfy with good quality linen. Dogs were secure on leads in the garden (there are a few gaps in the hedge) and sensible hard flooring throughout downstairs. Clean, comfortable and so much character. Excellent instructions on access, car parking and key collection from the hosts. Good Wifi. Negative: Only "nice to have" would have been some coffee pods for the machine provided. We did not manage to get phone reception (not the property's fault) but were okay to rely on WiFi ...
